  • Part 2: Saturday, October 25, 9am – 3pm ET

  • Bonus Live Q&A: Sunday, October 26, 12pm – 1pm ET

If you’ve ever…

  • Felt overwhelmed by the flood of vagus nerve stuff online

  • Wanted to skillfully integrate nervous system regulation into your classes — but without watering down the depth and tradition of yoga

  • Wondered how to make your chair yoga classes more targeted, effective, and in-demand

…then this workshop was made for YOU.

Why Many Vagus Nerve Trainings

Fall Short

Many trainings toss together random breathing or movement techniques with little consideration of:

  • The art of nervous system sequencing

  • How self regulation happens beyond the vagus nerve

  • How spirituality informs feelings of safety

The result? A mishmash of methods that might help in the short term — but aren't a part of a comprehensive and cohesive yoga framework.

How This Workshop is Different

You’ll learn how to:

  • Situate polyvagal theory within yoga philosophy and practice — so vagus nerve work becomes part of a whole-person approach

  • Move beyond the dominant Western reductive biomechanical approaches to the vagus nerve and embrace a truly holistic, yoga-centered view

  • Combine breath, movement, and meditation into targeted sequences that improve vagal health and overall wellbeing

  • Adapt floor poses into fun, accessible chair yoga — without losing the spirit of the yoga tradition

What You’ll Be Able to Do After This Workshop

  • Teach chair yoga for nervous system regulation

  • Include chair yoga as part of a therapy session

  • Explain how and why yoga improves vagal tone — in language your students and clients can understand

  • Confidently integrate yoga wisdom and science in your teaching and treatment plans

  • Offer chair practices for stress, digestion, and sleep

  • Provide clear, structured sequences, not a “grab-bag” of techniques

NINA GINOCCHIO

YOGA INSTRUCTOR - eRYT-200

Studying with Kristine has taught me that chair yoga is NOT watered-down mat yoga.

I am a busy yoga teacher, offering both chair yoga and mat yoga classes during the week. This is not a hobby for me, but a calling. I know that yoga can help so many people and I want to be able to do it effectively, with the right groundwork and information to share.

Chair yoga offers its own unique challenges and opportunities. My students are looking for ways to build their strength and improve their balance. They want better connection to their bodies and their breath. By treating chair yoga as the powerful tool that it is, I am able to offer my students access to all of this. Some days our work is more subtle, with a focus on the brain and sensation. Some days the work is gross motor movement and breath.

In every class, we work to find the connection with our bodies, with our breath, and with each other. I am so glad that I can serve my students in this way.

Many students are so deeply relaxed at class end they don't want to leave!

In traditional Yoga Teacher Training I learnt to adapt mat yoga poses for the chair but I found it doesn't really work in practice for people who might have limited range of movement, chronic health conditions or who suffer with fatigue.

Kristine has taught me to meet the students where they are, offering appropriate adaptations and using gentle movements and somatic techniques to develop awareness and find the mind, body connection.

I can now teach yoga on and around a chair in a fun way, gently stretching bodies, developing resilience and reaching a deep inner stillness through pranayama and meditation.

WHAT ARE THE LEARNING OBJECTIVES OF THE WORKSHOP?

1. Formulate strategies for introducing chair yoga to skeptical clients by addressing

common misconceptions and presenting yoga as a therapeutic, evidence-based practice.

2. Describe the function of the vagus nerve within the Polyvagal Theory framework, and

articulate why it’s a necessary, but incomplete understanding of mental health, healing

and flourishing.

3. Integrate chair yoga practices that support regulation of the autonomic nervous system

with breath-centric asana practices, and interoceptive awareness.

4. Explain how chair yoga practices modulate autonomic states and lead to psychological

flexibility.

5. Assess how chair yoga enhances interoception and grounding, and describe how these

skills support therapeutic goals such as self-regulation and mindfulness.

6. Employ pendulation and titration principles when guiding chair yoga practices to expand

client resilience without overwhelm.

7. Contrast the dominant Western reductionist biomedical model with a yogic holistic

worldview that includes cosmology, koshas, prāṇa, and relationships.

8. Implement accessible, trauma-informed sequences that support resilience, especially for

individuals with chronic stress, pain, and/or trauma histories.

9. Understand how Chair Yoga can be a brief intervention and adjunctive tool for regulating

anxiety, depression, and trauma-related dysregulation, particularly in a small office

environment.

10. Evaluate some current research evidence on the effectiveness of yoga-based

interventions for clinical conditions.

ANN PYNE

Chair yoga isn't just for 'oldies', it can help support anyone at anytime of life.

I have been teaching chair yoga for years to 50 - 90 yr olds.

It has been great to use the Subtle Yoga approach in my classes. I think we sometimes forget that older people can have stress and anxiety and other worries, along with health challenges and the nervous system approach is so beneficial.

I am currently using chair yoga to support me with a fractured ankle, using props and being kind.

I can practice and still teach yoga. Photo is me using props to support me along with Bob the Boot, Boris the block and Beryl the bolsters.
